The Migration of Cd in Granitic Residual Soil and Marine Clay: Batch and Column Studies

Due to the world’s population growth, excessive solid waste generation is a serious environmental issue. The landfill leachate infiltrates soils, pollutes groundwater, and puts all living things at risk. This study investigates geotechnical properties of soils (marine clay granitic residual soil) migration cadmium (Cd) using high-speed centrifuge column test. All soil samples were subjected physicochemical, morphology mineralogy analyses, including determination their particle size distribution, Atterberg limits, specific gravity, compaction, permeability, pH, organic content, cation exchange capacity (CEC) surface area (SSA). They also analyses by X-ray diffraction (XRD) scanning electron microscope (SEM). research utilizes two types adsorption tests: batch tests infiltration tests. For Batch test, elimination percentage Cd in marine was up 86% (SBMC2) 98% (SBMC1) an initial value 75 mg/L. While showed maximum removal percentages 39% (KGR) 47% (BGR). different g-force, (i.e., 10× g 20× g) weights 10 20 soils). revealed that (partition coefficient, Kd = 10–23 L/Kg) has better on compared (Kd 0.6 0.9 L/Kg). concludes (SBMC) one natural clay-based energy materials which can effectively use as engineered liner.
